Instead of Chess sets off from Marcel Duchamp's last artwork, Étant donnés (1946-1966), thus describing a way of constrained or hidden seeing and being seen, which the artworks on view share and discuss; this includes a critical play of light and colors - its dispersion as well as the contrast between a form and its negative.



Asana Fujikawa (*1981, Tokyo) lives and works in Hamburg. She is educated in Art and Teacher Training at Nagoya-Zokei university in Japan and a BFA student at the Hochschule für bildende Künste Hamburg.

Sho Hasegawa (*1987, Gunma (JP)) lives and works in Hamburg. He is BFA from the Musashino Art University Tokyo and an MFA student at the Hochschule für bildende Künste Hamburg.

Rosa Joly (*1986, Luçon (FR)) lives and works in Hamburg and Paris. She is MFA from the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Lyon and an MFA student at the Hochschule für bildende Künste Hamburg.
Recent and upcoming exhibitions include Prousts Fragebogen, Elektrohaus Hamburg 2014 / Les Méprises, Lycée François Villon, Paris 2013 / Ode to Ophelia, Les Subsistances, Lyon 2013.

Jenny Schäfer (*1985, Kassel) lives and works in Hamburg and is an MFA student at the Hochschule für bildende Künste Hamburg.
Recent projects and exhibitions include Aggregat (Gestein), Galerie Hinten, Chemnitz 2014 and the book Palm City Magdeburg, Materialverlag der HFBK, Hamburg 2014. Besides her studies, she takes commissioned photographic portraits of musicians and artists.

Margot Zweers (*1989, Den Haag) lives and works in Hamburg. She is BFA from AKV St. Joost Breda (NL) and an MFA student at the Hochschule für bildende Künste Hamburg.
